To Sew or not to Sew!! Love to Create Challenge!!

Wow talk about getting me out of my comfort zone!! Today's challenge is to sew or use faux stitches on a card. Well I got my sewing machine out but it wouldn't work so faux stitches is what you get...lol. I really need to get a sewing machine that will work because I love the look of stitches on a card!!

I ended up embossing the stitches to make them pop a little bit and the bear is pop dotted up to give a little more dimension to the card! Altered Journal with Flowers!!

Remember last week when I d/l the video of how to make one of Penny Duncan's roses? Well this week I'm going to show you what I made with it! I really love using the theme notebooks and alter them for friends, I think this one is going to my friend and pastor's wife Cindy!! My goal is to make one for all the ladies in my Sunday School class!! So here is my Purplefuntastic Design Team project for this week!!

Welcome to today's Baby Blog Hop!! First of all I have to say Happy Birthday to two people that were babies in my life 48 years ago and 28 years ago. Happy Birthday Theresa Ann, I love you Sis!! and to her son Michael!! Hope you both have a great birthday!!

Now on to the baby hop!! I'm so loving everything baby right now because we will get our first grand baby (a girl!!) in May!!! After having four boys I can't wait for a girl...lol. If you have just come to see what I'm dong this weekend thanks but I hope you go to our great hostess, Sylvia's Blog and see what she has done for you and I think she said she had blog candy on her blog. I've been working on a First Year Baby Album for my great nephew Jensen, (thought I had better get it done since he will soon be 2). This hop was perfect to finish a couple of pages, the first two for his album...lol. Hope you enjoy!!

These are pictures I took after Jensen was brought back to her room. I couldn't take any during the birth since she had to be rushed in for an emergency c-section.

PurpleFuntastic Creations How to make a Flower!!

Today's design team challenge was just up my alley because I love making flowers!! I usually use a file from Penny Duncan Creations when ever I need a flower because she has some great ones!! Here is the flowers I will show you how to make:

I just love today's challenge for Love to Create Challenge. Today you need to make a card using the colors pink, navy blue and a color of your choice!! I used pink, navy blue and green. The inside of my card. I was going to be making this as a Thinking of You card but I had to change it to a Sympathy card after my husband came in and told me about the death of a friend's husband. So I will be saying RIP Mr. George.

Lights on....
I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to showcase today because so many things Light Up My Life!! I realized that today's date was February 13 and it was easy then to showcase a layout I did in 2007 of my Grandma Myrtle. Grandma went Home to be with all of her loved ones that have passed on two years ago last month (the day before my birthday) but when I think of her I think of all the joy that she provided in her 91 years on this earth.
I live out in the country surrounded by corn and cotton fields, every time we would go by the cotton fields Grandma would say she wished she could get out in a field just one more time. Finally on Grandparent's Day (the last one she would be able to go to) I pulled over got her and her walker out and off we went. The light in her eyes was so worth every minute in that field!!! I then typed out questions and had her write the answers down in her own writing. She fought me tooth and nail saying that her handwriting wasn't good, her spelling wasn't good, ect. It didn't matter, I was so happy that I had her do this and this layout is probably one of my most prized memory!!

Can't you just see the light in her eyes!! I love the smile and her eyes in this picture.

Hands of love! I'm sure when she was young and had to pick cotton to make money she didn't like it, but to be able to be in that field one more time was an act of love!

Love to Create Challenge Blog Design Team!!

If you were hopping with us yesterday you seen my card that I made using Marci and her balloon sitting on a bench from La-La Land Crafts. Today I used another Marci digital, Heart Balloon Marci Digi Stamp, which is almost the same one as I used yesterday but without the bench. This just shows you how you can use the same stamp and change it up in so many ways. I hope you enjoy this!!

I'm leaving you the cut file for the heart. I just placed this heart in a 6x6 space and then cut it out.

I cut a pattern and a solid 6x6 to put the heart on to make it stiff. Making a tent card is very easy!!

I hope you like my recipe card I'm going to give this one to my niece too. If she's lucky I might even make her the bread to along with the card.:) Here's the recipe for the bread, I hope you enjoy it.

Banana Nut Bread

1 Cup Sugar

2 Med. Bananas

½ Cup margarine softened

¼ cup milk

1Tsp. Vanilla

2 Eggs

2 cups All purpose flour

1 tsp soda

½ tsp salt

½ cup chopped nuts

Blend 1^st 6 Ingredients Beat 1 minute

Stir in remaining ingredients until moist

Pour in greased pan. Bake for 350° for

50 to 60 minutes

I really couldn't figure out what I was going to do for this project. Then I remembered that I had never scrapped any of my wedding pictures so that's the way I went. These pictures are over 28 years old and I really would like to get all of them done sometime before the next 28 years...lol.

Welcome to Day 1 of the Ticket to Love Blog Hop!! Valentine's Day is so much fun with all the hearts and colors!! Since I have 4 boys I don't get to do a lot of pink and girly stuff, so when it's Valentine's Day I get to have some fun. I played with some colors and came up with a card that I think you will like. Love using my Copic markers so I had to color up a cute La-La Land Craft digi stamp. Heart Balloon Marci Digi Scene 1 is one of La-La Land Crafts newer stamps and it was fun to color.

I love doing the inside of my cards. The extra papers on the inside just gives a card a little more something special!!

My little monkey helped me make the heart shaped Monkey Bread and I made a recipe card that I'm going to give to my niece for her recipe book. Here's the recipe for my

Monkey Bread

Ingredients:

3 (10 ounce) packages refrigerated biscuit dough

3/4 cup white sugar

3 Tablespoons ground cinnamon

1/2 cup margarine

3/4 cup white sugar

Directions:

1. Mix together 3/4 cup sugar and cinnamon.

2. Quarter the biscuits with kitchen shears. Dip

shears in water after each cut to keep the biscuits

from getting too sticky. Dip biscuits in sugar mixture

and place in a greased pan. Do this until all biscuits are used.

3. Melt butter or margarine, and mix in 3/4 cup sugar. Pour mixture over biscuits.

4. Bake in a preheated 350 degree F (175 degree C) oven for 30 to 35 minutes.

Purple Funtastic Creations Design Team!!

Recently, I was honored to make the Purple Funtastic Creations Design Team!! I'm so excited about the next 4 months. Ms. Kari Sanchez said she would make us think out side our comfort zone and boy oh boy is she ever doing that. Right off the bat she asked us to go to Far Far Hill and d/l a digi paper and use that and make something vintage. "Uh okay." Only problem never done digi and never done vintage, but okay I'm game. I looked through Far Far Hills site and found lots of free digi designs to use and d/l The Freebies Vintage Kit. I printed out the background that I liked and the little girl (the little girl I printed 4 copies). I then trimmed around the little girl and pop dotted the flowers on her head and the cat and her arm. This way I gave it a dimensional look. I also added metalic beadies to her bracelet to give it some dimension. I hope you like what I have come up with and keep coming back and see what else Kari has us coming up with. I have a feeling she is going to make me think!! Enjoy!!

On this view you can see how the cat and the flowers on her head have been popped up.

Had to decorate the inside of the card too!!! I just used the strip of digi paper that I had cut off the front when I used the punch and then glued it on the inside of the card and used some ColorBox Chalk to give it a little more color.

Sometimes I really hate technology but most of the time I love it...lol. We've been without internet for almost 2 weeks and I thought I was having withdrawals!!! But I'm back and can't wait to get going again!!!

For those that know me know that I'm not a glittery person or blingy...lol. Maybe it has something to do with having four boys but I thought I would try something different for a change. My friend did my makeup for me last July when my high school class had our 30th class reunion and I thought I would bling those pictures up.

Do you like those flowers? They are from a cut file designed by the great artist Penny Duncan!! She has tutorials and free cut files for many different flowers. This is the spiral rose file. It's really hard to see all the bling that I used on this layout. I used my Viva Pen and made swirls down the side of the pages then added rhinestones here and there. The flowers were all made with Bazzill card stock and then more bling added to them. I used my Make the Cut and cut my letters and then added more rhinestones to each letter.

Show Me Your Scrapbook Room Blog Hop Jan. 20

There are a few changes since these pictures were taken. I noticed on one of the shelves I have a whole bunch of Sizzix dies which I don't use anymore. There is also a Cricut showing and I don't cut with a Cricut anymore either!! Ok there is a lot of pictures so get your glass of tea and sit back and enjoy!!

My Copics which is like my own little babies!! I'm registering for an intermediate Copic Class to be held in March, so keep your fingers crossed that I'm selected!!!

This is my 24" Black Cat Cougar!! I love this cutting machine!! It cuts through paper and chipboard like butter. If you have wondered about getting a different cutting machine you should really check this one out. Sheri at That's Scrap, Inc. will be glad to help you with any of your cutting needs. Plus there is a forum that you can go to and discuss your cutting needs no matter what cutter you have. Come on over and visit.

Ever wonder what to do with those empty toilet paper holders, well cut them in half and wrap your ribbon around them. I then cut some foam board and made dividers and now my ribbon is all nice and neat and I can find what I want!!!

Don't you just love Marci!!! She's got a gift for you Debbie!!! This is a digital stamp that I got from La La Land and Crafts!! Marci and the panda is one stamp and then I also bought the Heart Balloon Marci and used the gifts that came with it!! Of course I colored Marci and the presents with my Copics. I then used some Stickles on the presents and a little bit on Marci's dress!! Well that's my birthday gift to Debbie for today!!

Since I have 4 boys I knew that I had to participate in this blog hop and I had just the pictures to use in a layout. The only thing was which paper did I want to use. Since I couldn't decide on the paper I ended up making two layouts using the same pictures. I hope you enjoy the layouts and let me know which is your favorite. My niece took these pictures a couple of years ago when my son Jackie was home on leave. Having boys they never let me get pics but this time they actually did and they even smiled. I found the charm in some stuff that I have had forever (one of my goals this year is to use stuff that I have had without buying more). I really liked this paper too and wanted to use it and thought I would make a chromamatic layout using the blues. I like how it came out too and used a charm on this one too. This charm reads, "A brother is a friend for life."

Here's what the journaling says:

The Ice Storm of 2009 is one winter storm none of us will forget soon. We were without electric for 15 days and without water for 3 days. At the time, we were still foster parents and had 4 foster children and our own two boys living here. Luckily we have a big whole house generator so we were able to have electric part of the time. Gas was becoming something that was hard to get so we started turning the generator off at night so we could save what gas we had. My niece’s electric was off so she came over here to stay with her 2 dogs and cat. Then when we checked on Mom and Grandma we smelled gas so made them come home with us too!! Wow!! What a houseful!!!

The ice was beautiful on all the limbs but so much destruction was everywhere. There wasn’t a tree in our yard that wasn’t broken. There were electric lines down everywhere. Greg had to go out with the chainsaw just to get limbs off the road so we could go to town to get groceries.

Prayers that we never get another ice storm like that.

I put my journaling on a clear transparency since I wanted the colors and the background to come through. Here is what it says:

I just love this time of the year.

The main thing I love is the real

reason for the season; the birth

of Jesus Christ our Savior!!

The church usually has a Christmas

pageant reflecting the manger scene

and have the children singing all the

traditional Christmas songs. One of

my all time favorites is Silent Night

Holy Night. I think about that song

and wonder could it have really been

a silent night. It was definitely a

holy night, but silent….hmmm. I would

think that people would have been

screaming at the top of their lungs

that the King had arrived!! But then

again would it not have been such a

reverent night that everyone was in

awe and was silent.

There was so much response to the Christmas Cards & Cookies Blog Hop that it had to be split between two weekends. This is Round One and begins Saturday, Dec. 3rd, continuing through Sunday, Dec. 4th. Round Two will be held next weekend. We have a talented group of women who love papercrafting and baking. Each of them is sharing a recipe for a yummy Christmas treat along with a Christmas card or tag. Hopefully, you’ll pick up some great ideas for your own Christmas gift giving this season. So, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and enjoy!

Oh there is a smell in the air of something wonderful!! Yes, it's the smell of cookies, bread and other holiday goodness!!!! My family loves this time of the year because I actually make home made cookies!!! I thought today for this great blog hop that is being hosted by Dena Jones that I would share my Peanut Blossom Cookie Recipe with you! I actually have two recipes for you, making the same thing :)

Peanut Butter Blossoms

Ingredients

48 HERSHEY'S KISSES Brand Milk Chocolates
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup REESE'S Creamy Peanut Butter
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup packed light brown sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Granulated sugar

Directions

Heat oven to 375°F. Remove wrappers from chocolates.

Beat shortening and peanut butter in large bowl until well blended. Add 1/3 cup granulated sugar and brown sugar; beat until fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into peanut butter mixture.

Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately press a chocolate into center of each
cookie; cookie will crack around edges. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.
About 4 dozen cookies.

Did you notice there is a bag of cookie dough mix in the picture, that's the second recipe!!! If you are running short of time but you still want to make a cookie that looks like you spent hours over the mixer just grab a bag of Betty Crocker Peanut Butter Cookies (the large size) add 1 Tablespoon water, 3 Tablespoons of Vegetable oil and 1 Egg! Mix just like you would normally and as soon as they are done place the Hershey's Kiss in the middle, total time about 20 minutes!!

Need a cute way to give them away? I love the box that I cut with my Black Cat Cougar and 1 piece of 12x12 cardstock! Before you add the cookies be sure to let them cook so the chocolate won't met to each other. Just add the tag like the one I made on my box and you have a great inexpensive gift! I just used a piece of acetate that I had taken off of something else for the front of my box (be sure you wash it before you glue it in. I hope you have enjoyed my recipe that I have shared with you.

Wow where has the time gone!!

This has been a month to be so thankful for everything the Lord has provided!! We have had family in for almost two straight weeks!! I literally had to tell them no several times that I wasn't working last week. That's the reason I'm a sub I can work when I want and not work if I don't want too...lol. Today's my last day of rest though, got a call today asking me if I would work from now until Christmas break. Yep I will!! Trying to earn money to go on a mission trip some time next year so going to try to work as much as possible!!!

I had some good news that I wanted to share with you too. I was a guest designer for Visual Designs by Chris this month!! She asked to see some work of card makers and I sent some of my cards in and she chose me to do two cards for her. The first one can be seen here on her blog. That link will take you to where you can buy the file but I can now show you the card that I designed for her.

This was really fun to play around with and her designs are so easy to use!! I have all the details of how I made it on her page so you can check it out. The second card I can go ahead and show you too but it hasn't come out yet on her blog but it will sometime before Christmas!!

I popped dotted the outer frame up on this one and it looked really kewl, or at least it did until I sat the laptop on top of it and then it kind of wasn't popped up anymore...lol.

I have made several of these for wedding gifts but now I'm making my own (my husband is happy too since the frame has been hanging on the wall empty for 3 months...lol.)

This is cut with my 24" Black Cat Cougar and Make-the-Cut. The pattern papr is Daisy D's and the solid is Bazzill. The frame is 11 3/4" x 36". My layout and story is about my son Kyle! November is Epilepsy Awareness Month and Adoption Month, with Kyle you get both. We have had the privilege of Kyle living with us since he was 5 1/2 months old and I couldn't love him more if he had grown in my belly, but instead he grew from my heart. We realized Kyle had Epilepsy when he was around 3 and we were given the diagnosis of Epilepsy and Autism. You probably can't read the story so here it is:

Epilepsy

Kyle’s Story

The phone rings and it’s the daycare screaming Kyle’s having a seizure!! Five minutes later I’m with him and he’s just coming out of it in the ambulance. The EMT asks me a lot of questions that I’m not able to answer because Kyle is not biologically mine. The seizure lasts for ten minutes and there doesn’t seem to be a reason for it. The hospital ran tests and nothing no answer and they send us home. I’ve known something is wrong for a long time but no answers. A year later Kyle is finally adopted by us and he has another seizure that lasts for longer than ten minutes and he turns blue. I’m able to get him the specialists that he needs. The diagnosis will be autism and epilepsy. Two diagnoses that we do not want to hear, but at least now we know what we are dealing with. We have come a long way since then but Kyle is no longer having Grand Mal seizures thanks to 9 little pills that he has to take each day. He now has Abstinence seizures, but not very often and the doctor thinks that someday he can come off the meds! My prayer and hope is to someday have a Cure!

I wasn't real sure what I was going to do for this hop but I came across this picture of my two youngest boys that I took a few weeks ago in Indiana and I knew what I was going to do. This layout is very simple but the smiling faces of the boys to me was all it really needed. I hope you like it!!

I thought this turned out so cute. I used yellow and white bakers twine from The Twinery criss-crossing it across the bottom of the picture of the boys. The solid card stock is Bazzill and the patterned paper is from Paper Studio. I have gave you the cutting files for the words and the duck for you to use. If you would like to share these please lead people back to this page. The three little yellow dots in the left-hand bottom corner is Viva Pearl Pen in Sunny Yellow. First time I used this but I will be using it again!! If you look at the duck closely he has a wiggly eye. I just punched a small brown circle and then put the eye on it to give it a little bit more pop. The duck is covered with Sunshine Yellow Flower Soft to give him a little bit of feathery look. I really hope you like the layout! Enjoy!!

Wow can't believe it's only 10 days away to Halloween!!! I'm loving this blog hop with all these talented designers!! I tried something new today and I'm needing a little more practice but thought it didn't turn out to bad. It's a tent card! I followed the directions from here and made my own templates for the card. I will share the cutting files with you. When you cut the card out I cut one of the 6x6 pieces and the 6x4 piece together and then shut the eyes for those two and cut the other 6x6 piece out separate. I first cut those three pieces out of Bazill to give it a sturdy body, then I cut another patterned 6x6 and the 6x6 with the oval cut out of pattern cardstock and used my ATG gun to adhesive the pattern pieces to the solid card stock.

Don't you just love this little girl!!! She is a digital stamp that I purchased from here and I can guarantee I will be getting more of these!!!

Of course, I colored Marci with my Copics and you can't tell from the picture but her shoes has some bling and so does her sucker!! I sprayed the flowers with some glimmer mist and then added buttons to the front of them.

So thankful to be a guest designer on Kari’s blog (PurpleFuntastic Creations) today, not only to show you a layout that I have made but to be able to give a testimony too. I guess I need to introduce myself first. My name is Zenita Smith aka ScrappinwithZ, and I live in Southeast Missouri, but first and above all I’m a Christian that loves to tell other’s about our Savior!!! I’ve been married for almost 28 years and the mother of four fabulous sons and mother in law to two fantastic women. In just a few short months I’ll also be Nana to our first grandchild (hopefully a girl). I’ve been scrapbooking over 10 years and would have to say I’m addicted to the craft!!! A person that scrapbooks can tell so many stories with just a few pictures on a page.

We were asked to give a testimony using a song that really means something to us. I had problems trying to pick just one song so I kind of combined two songs, “Amazing Grace” and “The Old Rugged Cross.” To me without that cross we wouldn’t have amazing grace. It just boggles my mind that with Jesus dying on that cross we can have such amazing grace. When I read Ephesians 1:7-8 (KJV) 7 “In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; 8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;” I get goosebumps thinking what that blood stands for and how unworthy each of us are.

We are all wretches but though the blood of Jesus Christ we are saved. Like the words of Amazing Grace, “I once was lost but now am found, Was blind, but now, I see….T’was Grace that brought us safe thus far…and Grace will lead us home. …The Lord has promised good to me…” That promise was made on the cross, and this is why to me both songs go together.

The layout I made for today I actually made a few years ago and it’s very simple but I think the cross says it all. The little pictures around the page tells of some of the history of the cross and of the site of the cross. This cross is located just outside of Wicliffe, KY on the banks of the Mississippi River, which has a special meaning to me. My husband is a riverboat captain on the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers and it’s like this cross to me is there keeping him safe with the promise of Jesus Christ.

I hope and pray that each of you have a special relation with Jesus Christ our Savior.

Today I'll start with the Halloween Blog Hop and then go to the Sketch Hop!! I hope you have been hopping with us. There were a few missing links yesterday but I think they are all fixed today and hope you will hop with us!!! I made a Halloween layout for you to see today. I'm going to use this layout for one of my son's school parties this year so I haven't added the pictures yet.

Spider Web and Mats File Cut

The pattern paper that I have used is from Cloud 9Design Witches Brew. I added olive green mats that measure 6.5 x 4.5 and wrapped twine from The Twinery around the bottom. I have left the twine loose so I can slip the pictures underneath the twine. The bats in the middle are from the Heidi Grace Collection. The little bat at the bottom is a button that I cut the backing off. Did you notice the google eyes on the frog in the pot and the Eyes of the Newt....lol. I love googly eyes!!! The lettering is from the Chiller Font. Page two is really a piece of orange Bazill that I put a layout over after cutting the mats that I put on the first page. I then took some Charcoal Color Box Ink and put around the edges. When I put the pictures on the orange part it will look like it is matted with orange. I added the spider web that I cut out of black Bazill in the middle by just adding adhesive in the middle. I want to be able to add my pictures underneath the spider web. I accidently ripped a couple of places on the spider web but I left it thinking that it looked natural. I hope you enjoyed this layout and I will leave you the files for the spider web and the Lettering. I cut all of this using my Black Cat Cougar and Make the Cut!

This was a fun card to make and I wanted to make something using Fall coloring since we have had such a great Fall season so far. Here is my card:

For this card I used my Copic Markers and a Magnolia Stamp. The Oval was cut with my Black Cat Cougar and so was the Hello piece. The leaves are Printworks Collection Clear Stamps. The pattern cardstock was Die Cuts With A View. The metal hinges are from Spare Parts. The brown oval was Bazzil. I stamped my little girl with Memento ink. I'm giving you the file for the right size of oval and for the tag.

Halloween Blog Hop!!!

I love this time of the year and really like decorating with pumpkins, cornstalks and anything fall!! But I hate to carve pumpkins!! I think it's just the mess that grosses me out, so this year I figured a way around the mess but have a pumpkin that I think turns out fairly well. This is for all those Harry Potter Fans out there:

How do you like that? It was so easy and very inexpensive!!! I just used plain black contact paper like you put in drawers. I didn't want to use expensive vinyl because it will just be thrown away!! Such Beautiful Fall Weather!!!

I have just been loving the fall weather that we have been having here in Southeast Missouri!!! The sun has been shining and the weather is just right to wear a long sleeve t-shirt or sweatshirt!! Perfect weather if you ask me. All the beautiful fall leaves have made me decorate my house and yard with cornstalks and my mums. I would really like to put out a scarecrow or two but I know if I do the neighbor's dog would tear it up, so I thought I would make one to share with you.
